Overview
Braking made easy
Every PE wind-powered water pump can be stopped comfortably from ground level. When idling, the wheel still turns gently, so the pump keeps being flushed through. That protects the components from deposits and sand ingress during longer breaks in operation.

The hand brake in detail
Two braking systems
The PE wind-powered water pump W 1806 uses a brake shoe that simply slows the wind wheel until it comes to a standstill and is safely locked, much like the drum brake in a car. The larger wind pump models use an even simpler yet highly effective braking system: here the tail vane is turned out of the wind by a cable winch.
Gentle on the material
The yellow wind wheel then automatically turns parallel to the wind and is no longer driven. Even so, it can still rotate freely in the wind without seizing up. This solution is highly efficient: the wind wheel moves freely with the wind without pumping water, an innovative approach that is gentle on the material and gives the components a long service life.
The pump stays flushed through
The special feature of this system: the wind wheel keeps moving slightly, so the pump is always flushed through with water. During longer breaks in operation this prevents the moving parts of the piston pump from seizing up and protects them against material such as sand washing in.
