Turning wind power into movement
Our high-quality PE wind wheels, known in some regions as Western windmills, are easy to recognise by their yellow blades with the red dot in the centre. The wheel converts wind energy into a rotary movement, which is passed along the axle to the connecting rod of the pump: the larger the diameter, the more power you get.

A closer look at the Western windmill
The windmill's wind wheel
The special shape and pitch of the blades mean the wheel is driven as the air flows through it. It converts wind energy into a rotary movement, which travels along the wheel's axle and on to the connecting rod of the wind pump. The larger the wheel diameter, the more power can be generated.
Choosing the site
Ideally the wind reaches the blades in a straight line, without turbulence. That way the full energy of the wind can be put to use, which matters most at low wind speeds. A generous distance from buildings and trees is therefore important. The higher the wheel is mounted, the better the airflow it receives, which is why tower heights of 9 m, 12 m, 15 m and even up to 18 m are available. For every wheel diameter we offer matching, standardised tower heights.
Wind wheel diameters
Our range covers a variety of wheel sizes. The smallest measures 1.8 m in diameter and is used to irrigate small gardens or to supply water to small herds out at pasture. Depending on the volume of water you need, wheels with a diameter of 3.0 m, 4.0 m, 5.0 m, 7.0 m or even 10 m are available.
