One service a year keeps your system reliable for the long run.
Overview
Once a year is enough
We recommend servicing your system once a year: it is simple, quick and effective. That is all it takes to keep your wind-powered water pump reliable and safe to operate for many years.
In detail
Annual maintenance of your wind-powered water pump
Once a year
We recommend servicing the system once a year, following a simple rule: keep it well greased and everything runs smoothly. Many owners carry out the service themselves after a short briefing, because it is as straightforward as it is effective. Pick a spell of calm weather with little wind for the job.
Secure the wind wheel
Use the hand brake to slow the wind wheel until it comes to a complete standstill, so that a turning rotor cannot put you at risk while you climb the tower. Then lash the wind wheel to the lattice tower with a short strap. Always put your safety first and protect yourself against falls. Read the operating instructions carefully before you start work.
Grease it properly
What matters is that every moving part fitted with a grease nipple gets plenty of grease, including those hidden under the weather cover. Do not be sparing here. Once fresh grease appears at the outlet openings and looks clean, you have done the job right.
Bolted joints & paintwork
Give all bolted joints a visual check for tightness and, if needed, retighten them with an open-ended or socket spanner, which is rarely necessary. Over the years the windmill may welcome a fresh coat of paint, although that is purely cosmetic and does not affect how it works.
