Practical advice for getting the best out of your wind-powered water pump.

Tips for getting the best performance

Clearance

When choosing the height of your system, allow plenty of distance from buildings and trees, because they slow the wind down and create turbulence. That reduces the output of the wind wheel.

Annual maintenance

An annual service is essential, and owners are very welcome to carry it out themselves. Grease all the important moving parts with the hand grease gun, run a visual inspection and check that every bolted connection is still tight, retightening where needed.

The pump

Wherever possible, mount the pump at least 10 to 25 cm above the floor of the well, so that it draws in the cleanest possible water without sand.

Pumped water

Ideally, collect the pumped water in a storage tank via a free outlet. Never let the pump work against closed valves, because that will damage the system.

Design

All our wind-powered water pumps have a green tower and a yellow wind wheel. They are a little reminiscent of a large sunflower, and they blend beautifully into the landscape.
