An ecological water cycle in the Radicepura botanical park
In the world-renowned Radicepura botanical park in Giarre, at the foot of Mount Etna, our mechanical wind-powered water pump takes centre stage in "Vento e Acqua" ("Wind and Water"), a project by the Italian landscape architect Paolo Pejrone.
The pump catches the Sicilian wind and drives the garden's entire water cycle completely off-grid: water flows from basin to basin, is filtered biologically through the roots of irises and reeds, then returns clean to where it started. A closed ecological loop that uses no electricity at all.
